The Akron General Medical Center has a Research Associate position available for a mechanical or biomedical engineer within the Biomechanics Laboratory. The engineer will work under the direction of the Research Director and participate in research projects focused on musculoskeletal biomechanics in collaboration with practicing orthopaedic surgeons and orthopaedic residents. The laboratory is equipped with mechanical testing equipment, motion tracking systems, sensors for quantifying pressures, computational resources for 3-D reconstruction and simulation of joint function, and facilities for anatomical dissection.
Responsibilities:
1. Preparation and testing of cadaveric specimens for evaluation of orthopaedic procedures.
2. Designing and creating fixtures for experimental testing.
3. Computational construction of knee models and 3-D representation of joint motion based on imaging data.
4. Computational simulation of joint function via MatLab programs and multibody dynamic simulation.
4. Writing programs to capture and process experimental testing data.
5. Analysis of experimental results.
6. Assist with the preparation and submission of abstracts, manuscripts, and grant applications.
Qualifications: BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline. Previous experience operating a servo-hydraulic testing machine and experience with Matlab programming and software for data collection, computer-aided design, and manipulation of graphical models is desired.
