    Position: Postdoctoral Fellow in Technology for Family Caregivers

    Status: Temporary Full-Time (1 year MLOA)


    Toronto Rehab Institute (Toronto Rehab) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow interested in the difficulties faced by family caregivers. To support the effectiveness and safety of family caregivers, we are developing innovative technologies to help with bathing, toileting and moving safely around the home environment. This will enable families to support their loved ones to continue to live in their own homes rather than moving them into a nursing home or other institutional setting.


    The selected candidate will be expected to continue the work of the current Hallisey Post-Doctoral Fellow; this includes assisting with applications for external funding, publishing in high-quality journals, presenting at conferences and contributing to the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.


    The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary research team based at Toronto Rehab, which is the largest rehabilitation centre in Canada. Toronto Rehab is part of the University Health Network (UHN); UHN is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto. A major strength of the program is the combination of basic science and clinical research with product design, development and commercialization. The research will take place at the unique iDAPT Rehabilitation Research facility.     Qualifications:
    • Eligible candidates will have completed a PhD in a relevant health or engineering discipline
    • Expertise and experience in:
    1. biomechanical assessment of postural balance and movement; and/or
    2. design and fabrication of mechanical devices and electromechanical
    • Facility in both oral and written English must be demonstrated by all applicants
