  • NIKE:Senior Researcher, Biomechanics

    Overview

The Applied Apparel Research Team in the NXT Sport Research Lab is seeking a Senior Researcher for its “support” research program. The team’s mission is to drive apparel innovation through knowledge and insights gained from a scientific understanding of athletes and their environment. The team’s research primarily focuses on supportive athletic apparel created for use during activity (e.g., sports bras, compression tights).

Outstanding job performance will be characterized by:

    · Creating the future. This position requires the ability to recognize a business opportunity and, subsequently, developing an innovative research program that drives the needs of the business.

    · Delivering results. This position requires the ability to manage multiple programs of research while ensuring that 1) all milestones and deliverables are met in a timely fashion; and 2) all deliverables are of the highest scientific integrity.

    · Effective high-profile communication. Whether in front of a panel of scientists, the CEO of Nike, a world-class athlete, a room full of media relations representatives, or a courtroom of jurors, the position requires someone who can communicate their knowledge and insights in high-profile situations to diverse audiences.

    · Continuously growing and developing. This position requires continuous growth and development (e.g., exploring new scientific areas, utilizing novel approaches, learning new scientific techniques), as well as creating a team environment that promotes teaching & learning to ensure the team meets the challenges of an ever-changing marketplace.

    · Special expertise. This position requires translating scientific expertise (biomechanics, biomedical engineering, or a related area) into knowledge & insights that drive innovations in supportive athletic apparel.

Outstanding candidates will be characterized by:

    · Graduate education and extensive professional experience in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, or a related area, including proficiency in all aspects of the scientific process (study conception, study logistics, protocol development, data collection, statistical analyses, and communication) and the associated scientific tools and skills (e.g., motion capture, force plates, accelerometers, EMG, software programming).

    · Previous experience turning knowledge and insights into business outcomes (e.g., tangible products, new areas of opportunity).

    · Previous experience managing multiple projects with multiple stakeholders (e.g., establishing & tracking milestones & deliverables, communicating with stakeholders, ensuring prototypes are developed).

    · Previous experience creating “defensible” research programs (scientifically, ethically, and legally defensible).

    · Previous experience creating research programs that are aligned with a broader strategy.

    · A track record of continuous growth and development (novel scientific approaches and techniques), as well as previous experience developing junior scientists to reach their full potential.

    · Previous experience with high-profile communication to diverse audiences.

    Re: NIKE:Senior Researcher, Biomechanics

    Hello Sir/madam,

I am very interested in the Researcher position at the NIKE in Portland.

I believe I will make a strong contribution to your team with my given background in the field of Biomechanical engineering. My strengths in the area of computational biomechanics include my research during my PhD and post doc years. My PhD dissertation was focused on the development of 3D human gait using MATLAB, C++, Simulink and SIMM, Visual 3D and Vicon Nexus software. This model has many applications including understanding the human gait, designing an intervention for stroke patients, and helping them to rehabilitate.

During my post doc year at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and UC Davis Medical Center, I was involved with numerous biomechanic projects including the development of an index finger model and studying fall from a ladder and etc.
In addition, I have gained clinical experience during my post doc years by designing interventions for children suffered from stroke or brachial plexus injury in assisting with rehabilitation. I believe I can use my given experience in analyzing human motion to quell my hunger towards biomechanics research.

At your earliest convenience, I'm interested in discussing this with you further.

    Sincerely,

    Seyed Hadi Salehi, PhD
    Project Scientist,
    University of California -Davis
