The newly founded research institute of Guangdong Work Injury Rehabilitation Center/Hospital (GWIRC), located in Guangzhou, China, is seeking multiple highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join the rehabilitation engineering laboratory. GWIRC provides medical, vocational, and social rehabilitation, rehabilitative assistive device fitting, and other services to work-injured patients and disabled persons. It has a highly educated therapeutic team including more than 500 experts from clinical rehabilitation and rehabilitation therapy fields. The center has 12 rehabilitation wards, including more than 600 beds.
The candidates will conduct innovative rehabilitation engineering research of patients recovering from disabilities and injuries. The type of patients studied may include those with spinal cord injury, stroke and brain injuries, amputation, peripheral nerve injuries, orthopedic injuries and other injuries. Each candidate may contribute to more than one type of study that may include some of the following topics: motor unit, electrophysiology, biomedical signal processing, muscle physiology, muscle function, muscle imaging, myoelectric control, rehabilitation robotics, assistive devices, and computer modeling.
The candidates should possess a PhD in a relevant discipline such as biomedical engineering, neural engineering, rehabilitation science or engineering, neurophysiology, or biomechanics. Experience with conducting research on human subjects and EMG recording, and evidence of establishing a track record in journal publications are preferred. Chinese speaking is desired but not a requirement.
The positions are available any time from now. The initial appointment can be 3 years. Salary depends on the experience, and will be comparable to the postdoctoral fellowship stipend level in the United States. The successful candidates will spend the first 1.5 to 2 years in GWIRC and then have an option to join the PM&R department of UTHealth at Houston as visiting scientists (under financial support of GWIRC). The postdoctoral positions can be renewed. Given distinguished performance the successful candidates are also encouraged to apply for a promotion to PI or lab director at the end of the 3-year appointment. This would need further negotiation with GWIRC.
Positions will remain open until filled. Applicants should send a brief application email with a complete CV as an attachment to Ping Zhou (Ping.Zhou.1@uth.tmc.edu).
