    The Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center of Excellence (http://www.aptcenter.research.va.gov) of the Rehabilitation R&D Service of the US Department of Veterans Affairslocated at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center has an immediate opening for a full-time early-career researcher in the field of Prosthetics & Orthotics design and evaluation. Recently completed post-doctoral trainees, or new graduates with MDs or PhDs in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or related disciplines, are strongly preferred.

    Candidates MUST be US citizens and are expected commit to pursuing a research career within the VA system. Two years of salary at the GS-11 to GS-13 level will be provided, depending on all applicable federal guidelines for Hybrid Title 38 employees. Applicants will contribute immediately to ongoing R&D projects as they work to secure independent funding for projects of their own design. Significant involvement and contributions to clinical service are required. Mentors at the APT Center have a strong track record of guiding new researchers successfully through the Career Development and Merit Review submission process.

    The LSCVAMC hosts a vibrant rehabilitation R&D Community with one of the busiest Prothetics Services in the VA System, state-of-the-art Prothetics Fabrication, Human Gait/Posture Analysis, Sensorimotor Integration and Virtual Reality Laboratories, and an Amputee Clinic that strives to translate and integrate research into clinical practice. Investigators with the APT Center work closely with the faculty of the Schools of Medicine and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, which is within walking distance of the Medical Center, and enjoy access to world class academic facilities for microfabrication, microelectronics, additive manufacturing, macromolecular material formulation and characterization, biologically inspired robotic development and neural engineering.
