The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral fellow for a multidisciplinary program for the development of innovative engineering solutions to challenges in healthcare. You will be working in close conjunction with a new UW College of Engineering initiative focusing on health innovation. The position will be available at the start between September and January.
The primary responsibility of the position is to lead medical device development projects within UW’s year-long Engineering in Medicine design course sequence. This is an existing academic program where multidisciplinary teams of engineering undergraduate and graduate students work with local clinical partners to develop solutions to pressing health challenges. This year long program guides students through a needs-based and human-centered design approach that engages clinicians, engineering faculty and students, scientists, industry partners, and entrepreneurs. Additional duties include recruiting and engaging clinicians and other key stakeholders in UW’s Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Dentistry, and Seattle Children’s Hospital as well as leading or catalyzing projects towards self-sustained research and/or commercialization.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in engineering or closely related field with experience in engineering design. Applicants are sought who have experience in teaching and/or developing medical technologies and devices.
