The Sports Injury Research Lab in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University is seeking qualified graduate students to fill doctoral level graduate assistantships starting in Fall 2016. Successful applicants should have a background related to athletic training, sports medicine, kinesiology, or the health sciences. Applicants will pursue a degree in the doctoral program in Kinesiology (http://www.education.msu.edu/kin/gra...hd/default.asp) while acting as graduate teaching assistants in the areas of undergraduate athletic training and kinesiology. All assistantships are funded including tuition waiver, stipend, and health insurance.
The kinesiology doctoral program offers a multi-disciplinary curriculum and diverse mentored research opportunities within the Department of Kinesiology. The primary objective of the doctoral degree program in kinesiology is to develop scholars who are competent in teaching, conducting research, and serving in leadership roles in various educational, governmental, public, or private agencies. Current research objectives include:
· Identifying the impact of return to exercise after knee joint injury on re-injury risk factors such as lower extremity biomechanics and neuromuscular function.
· Quantifying alterations in physical activity level following knee joint injury.
· Implementing individualized and community based interventions to facilitate safe return to physical activity following knee joint injury.
· Examine sex and age differences in high school and collegiate athletes who incur a sports-related concussion
· Prospectively exam neurocognitive function, balance, and symptom reports in youth and high school athletes with sport-related concussion
· Educate athletes on the signs and symptoms of concussion, dangers of playing with a concussion and changing the culture of sports.
