    The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Long Beach invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training and secondary area of either Biomechanics or Motor Learning and Control. Anticipated start date is August 17, 2016.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field, with expertise in athletic training and a secondary area of either biomechanics or motor learning and control; degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1st, 2016; BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (in good standing); Evidence of athletic training clinical or practical experience; demonstrated potential for teaching, research, and other scholarly activities; demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.

    DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Evidence of successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in athletic training and/or exercise science; a focused research agenda with a record of research publications/presentations; potential to develop/obtain grants and external funding; evidence of ability to work with diverse colleagues in a department, college, and university collaboratively, effectively, and successfully; evidence of professional leadership activities.

    DUTIES:
    Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in athletic training for the CAATE accredited athletic training education program; teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Exercise Science area in biomechanics or motor control and learning; develop or revise curriculum in the Athletic Training and Exercise Science programs to reflect contemporary discipline discovery and trends; work collaboratively with the Program Director and faculty for accreditation compliance, program management, curriculum development, and advancement of the professional degree program; conduct and publish research and scholarly work in area of expertise; promote and direct undergraduate research; supervise graduate student research and thesis/project committees; participate in department, college, university, or community service activities.

    DEPARTMENT AND FACILITIES:
    The Department has over 1500 undergraduate majors and offers degrees in adapted physical education, K-12 physical education teacher education, athletic training, exercise science, fitness, and sport psychology and leadership. At the graduate level, MS degrees are currently offered in exercise science, exercise physiology and nutrition, sport and exercise psychology, and sports medicine and injury studies. The Department houses numerous teaching and research facilities including a dedicated athletic training education laboratory specialized for teaching clinical skills. The successful candidate would also be able to use the Movement Science Laboratory, a brand new 5,000 square foot facility containing a 12-camera motion capture system, multiple force plates, an instrumented split belt treadmill, two 8 channel wireless EMG systems, multiple plantar pressure systems including in-shoe, mats, and 3 meter walkway, a six unit IMU system, eye tracking system, large monitors and projectors for real-time feedback, and Olympic lifting equipment for research, team testing, and training activities. There are opportunities for collaboration among Departments across campus and with the numerous centers within the College of Health and Human Services including the Center for Sport Training and Research, the Life Fit center, and the Osher Life Long Learning Institute. There are also strong collaborations both with the Long Beach State Athletics’ Department of Sports Medicine and individual athletic teams.
