  • Two PhD positions at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, UMCG, The Netherlands

    Hello,

Two PhD position are available at the department of rehabilitation medicine, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

PhD1: Developing a computer game to learn to control multiple DOFs of a multi-grip prosthetic hand simultaneously

PhD2: Developing a test and an activity monitoring system to assess the performance with multi-grip prosthetic hands

The research will be conducted within a H2020-grant in which new technology is developed to control multiple DOFs (i.e., grip types of prosthesis hands) simultaneously. The part of the project executed in Groningen will concern the clinical testing of the newly developed prosthetic control regime.

The first PhD will focus on the development and testing of a computer game with which the use of the new technology will be trained. Experience with programming in a gaming environment or otherwise extensive programming skills related to human-computer interaction is strongly recommended.

The second PhD has (1) to develop a test to assess different prosthetic hands and control systems, and (2) to develop a system to assess the performance of the new technology in daily life activities. Experience with opto-electric measurement systems, IMMs, and knowledge of MATLAB and biomechanics is strongly recommended. The experiments will be performed with able-bodied participants and novice and experienced users of multi-grip prosthetic hands. The selected individuals will plan, organize, and execute the experiments, analyze data, and publish papers culminating in two separate PhD theses, and give presentations at (inter)national scientific conferences and for patient meetings. The selected candidates will be expected to supervise Bachelor and Master students performing parts of the experiments.

The positions are funded by H2020-ICT-2015 call, topic ICT-24-2015 Robotics.
