    JOB SUMMARY:
    The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a highly-motivated Post-Doctoral Researcher to support research activities within the Department of Rehabilitation at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) located in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the Department of Rehabilitation.

    Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) is one of the nation’s largest and most renowned military medical centers and has recently been dubbed "The Nation's Medical Center". The Department of Rehabilitation is comprised of 4 clinical services: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Orthotics and Prosthetics. These services provide multidisciplinary rehabilitative care for Service Members and retirees. The Department also houses the Biomechanics Laboratory and the Virtual Environment Laboratory, which provide clinical and research services. The Biomechanics Lab has capabilities to capture human movement mechanics and the Virtual Environment Lab contains the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN).

    Note, US Citizenship and a personnel security background investigation are required.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
    • Collects data appropriate to existing research protocol(s)

    • Processes, analyzes, and interprets collected data

    • Performs descriptive and inferential statistical analyses

    • Prepares abstracts for professional conferences and/or manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals

    • Participates in the design and submission of research proposals/grants

    • Performs other duties as assigned


    JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with biomechanical research methods and human subjects data collection/analysis is required. Specific research background in the areas of low back pain, spine mechanics, and/or postural control is highly desired. A track record of publication and excellent technical writing skills are preferred. Proficiency with motion capture, EMG, biomechanical modeling, statistical analyses, and computer programming (e.g., MATLAB) are also preferred.

    Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD from an accredited institution in engineering, kinesiology, rehabilitation science, biomechanics, or a related field

    Minimum Experience: 2-4 years’ experience performing clinical research

    Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; interaction with patients

    Work Environment: The work environment is that of a motion analysis laboratory and virtual reality system located in a teaching and research hospital. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to quiet. Work is also performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heat and air conditioning.
