Chapman University’s Department of Physical Therapy seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. Successful candidate will begin January, 2016. Continually accredited since 1928, the Department of Physical Therapy has a rich tradition as one of the oldest, continually accredited DPT programs in the United States. The program is located on the newly opened Rinker Health Science campus, Irvine, CA. The campus is home to several current and developing accredited, graduate health science professional programs, including DPT, Pharmacy, and Physician Assistant. The campus is distinguished by innovative teaching, learning, and research laboratories and classrooms with an emphasis on inter-professional education, evidence-based practice, and health promotion and injury/disease prevention. The Rinker campus is strategically located near numerous health service, medical device, and biopharmaceutical companies. Chapman University offers traditional undergraduate programs in the arts and sciences and select pre-professional and graduate programs. Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a terminal academic doctorate (Ph.D., D.Sc. or equivalent) in a relevant area of expertise; post-doctoral fellowship preferred, as is a record of scholarship. Experience in research and teaching and an interest in inter-professional education are highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who are licensed physical therapists (or eligible for licensure in California) and who have experience in incorporating technology into teaching and professional practice. To be considered at the Associate Professor level, the successful candidate will have evidence of excellence in: 1) scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications and recognition as an independent investigator (a track record of grantsmanship is preferred); 2) teaching; and 3) service.
Responsibilities
Develop and/or maintain an active line of research, preferably one that is, or has the potential to be, interdisciplinary in nature, and will pursue extramural funding. Teach in area(s) of expertise, including kinesiology, scientific inquiry, or other courses in the DPT and t-DPT curricula. Teaching load is negotiable based on research excellence and funding. Additional
responsibilities include mentoring physical therapy students, participating in inter-professional educational experiences, and professional/academic service, including maintaining clinical competency, if applicable. Future responsibilities may include mentoring students in an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. For those at the Associate Professor level, significant service, including mentoring junior faculty, is expected.
