Doctoral or Post-Doctoral Study in Biomedical Engineering or Kinesiology at UT Austin:
The U. Texas Nonlinear Biodynamics Lab (http://www.edb.utexas.edu/khe/nbl/) anticipates having two or more funded positions available to start Summer / Fall 2016 to study the biodynamics and motor control of human walking. Specific projects will involve applying advanced virtual reality-based experimental methods to examine how movement coordination and dynamic stability are regulated during human walking in both young and older adults. This project will have applications to identifying the basic neural and biomechanical mechanisms which govern the control of walking, to better understanding the root causes of falling, and to reduce risk of falling in at-risk populations.
Strong computational skills (advanced mathematics (calculus, differential equations, etc.), physics, Matlab (or similar) programming experience) are required. Prior experience with computational analysis of human movement and/or biomechanical data (e.g., gait analysis) is strongly desired.
Positions will be for either doctoral student(s) or post-doctoral fellow(s). Doctoral students can pursue degrees either through the Department of Kinesiology & Health, or the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
