Research Assistant Position in Orthopaedic Biomechanics

The Mechanobiology Laboratory in the Bone and Joint Center at Henry Ford Hospital has openings for a research engineer.

We are looking for a motivated person interested in characterizing bone quality and adaptation as a function of musculoskeletal diseases. The primary goal of the lab is in understanding the cellular mechanism that regulate the mechanical properties and biochemical composition of bone in order develop therapeutic means for improving bone quality among different musculoskeletal diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a transgenic mouse colony to investigate how different cell types govern the mechanical behavior of bone. Other potential projects consist of, but not limited to, investigating cell mechanotransduction pathways, exercise physiology, and assessing cell function during aging among other pathologies such as chronic kidney disease.

Candidates must have at minimum a BE or BS in Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field of study. Strong work ethic, good organizational and communication skills are essential. Required skills include working with mice, along with basic cell and molecular biology techniques. Background experience in material testing, transgenic mouse models, organization and management of mouse colonies is preferred. The appointment is for a period of 2-3 years.

The Bone and Joint Center is a well-equipped, multidisciplinary research facility with faculty expertise in a range of Orthopedic disciplines including cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, biomechanics and motion analysis. The Center is located within a new laboratory space in Wayne State University’s new $93 million, state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research building. Additional information about the Bone and Joint Center can be found at: www.henryfordboneandjointcenter.com.
