The Multimodal Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and self-sufficient “RESEARCH ASSISTANT” to join our team.
The position entails assisting with research related to bone, osteoarthritis and mechanical properties Using a variety of techniques such as
traction/compression test, microtensile test, histology, TEM, SEM to obtain a better understanding of the mechanical behavior of the biological tissue.
This position is ideal for those planning on continuing research in biomedical engineering, biomechanics, physical medicine and rehabilitation,
or other health-related discipline. It is also ideal for those who want to apply to a DPT program.
The Multimodal Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory is part of the Department of Physical Therapy within the City University of New York in Staten Island.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide assistance to ongoing research studies (mechanical testing, bone preparation, data collection, statistical analysis, and administrative duties)
· Process and analyze data (primarily image and mechanical test).
· Maintain equipment and computer resources
· Participate in preparation of abstracts and manuscripts for scientific publication.
· Assist in grant submissions, IRB applications, publications, etc.
Required qualifications:
· BS or MS in engineering or biomedical engineering/biomechanics or related scientific field
· Proficient in MATLAB programing (signal processing, image processing, data acquisition, etc)
· Previous research experience related to biomedical engineering/biomechanics
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience using mechanical assessment tools
· Strong computer and technical aptitude, with attention to detail.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to conduct standard statistical analyses
· Interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, research subjects, team members, and project collaborators.
· Excellent critical thinking skills, ability to work independently
· Research experience and practical knowledge of research principles is required whether through previous internship, work experience, or coursework.
