  • Postdoctoral Position in Computational Biomechanics of Bone-Implant Systems

The Hospital for Special Surgery is seeking candidates for a three year postdoctoral position in Computational Biomechanics. Responsibilities include research and development projects in joint reconstruction, including building finite element models of a virtually implanted total knee replacement to assess the effect of implant design on bone stress and strain, modeling the insertion of the acetabular shell of a total hip replacement, and applications for joint replacement in the upper extremities. Mentoring and training will be provided by the Biomechanics staff at the Hospital in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons and staff of the Radiology and Imaging Department, providing a broad, multidisciplinary experience. Possibilities exist for NIH support through a T32 training program at the Hospital and the KL2 program at Weill Cornell Medical College’s Clinical and Translational Science Center.

The interested candidate must have a strong mechanical engineering background including finite-element modeling (Abaqus preferred), MATLAB, and image processing and must possess excellent communication skills.

Salary is competitive and will depend on the experience level of the candidate.

Hospital for Special Surgery is a world leader in the fields of Orthopedics, Rheumatology, and related disciplines. Founded in 1863, it is the oldest orthopedic hospital in the country.
HSS is the #1 ranked hospital in the U.S. for orthopedics, #2 for rheumatology, and top-ranked for pediatric orthopedics. Locations in NY, NJ, CT, and FL.
