Post Doctoral Fellowship in Orthopaedic Biomechanics
Opportunity: A 1-year full-time PDF (renewable for 2 years) in orthopaedic biomechanics at the Lawson Health Research Institute (www.lawsonresearch.com) of Western University, London, Canada (www.uwo.ca).
Research Context: The PDF will work in a new 300 sq.ft. orthopaedic biomechanics lab fully equipped with Instron testers, a strain gage system, a thermographic stress analysis system, a digital image correlation system, and computers for FE analysis. The PDF will report directly to Dr. Emil Schemitsch (orthopaedic surgeon) and Dr. Radovan Zdero (biomechanical engineer). The PDF will be registered in the Dept. of Surgery (www.schulich.uwo.ca/surgery) and/or the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering (www.eng.uwo.ca/mechanical).
Research Topics: Measuring bone mechanical properties; stress analysis of orthopaedic implants for joint replacement and fracture fixation; spine biomechanics; and developing new biomaterials.
Research Duties: Helping set up the new orthopaedic biomechanics lab; mechanical testing; FE analysis; supervising students; writing journal articles; and writing research grant applications.
Background Skills: PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent; excellent English skills (reading, writing, speaking); and experience with biomechanical testing and FE analysis.
Eligibility: All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Western University is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace and welcomes applications from all qualified individuals, including women, members of visible minorities, aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity.
