Alabama State University, Academic Affairs/College of Health Sciences, invites applications to fill the position of Dean. The successful applicant will serve as the chief academic officer for the College of Health Sciences, providing vision, leadership and advocacy for the college, its programs, and faculty and staff in the departments of Health Information Management, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Rehabilitation Studies. The Dean for the College of Health Sciences will act as a liaison between the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, related departments and programs to effect decision-making, resolves problems, and anticipates and respond to future needs; provides programmatic development and leadership at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as for outreach and continuing education, to include leadership for established and developing research, clinical practice and educational programs; develop extramural funding sources, fundraising, and alumni relations; build and maintain strong relationships with external constituents, campus partners, build and maintain effective representation of the college within the university and community; provide leadership in all aspects of curriculum planning and development, faculty and staff hiring and retention, development and evaluation and budget preparation; responsible for budgetary stability within the college, and oversee grant activity in the college. The dean for the College of Health Sciences reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate from an accredited institution, a distinguished academic record in one of the fields of the College, or related health sciences/allied health discipline and experience; and credentials to qualify for the rank of professor in one of the College’s academic departments are required. Five years of successful academic leadership at the level of department chair or above preferred. "

The College of Health Sciences houses graduate programs in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, and Rehabilitation Counselling. It houses undergraduate programs in Health Information Management and Rehabilitation Services. It is the fastest growing College at Alabama State University with ~600 students (my estimate). Alabama State University is in Montgomery, Alabama and has a rich history in the civil rights movement and continues to lead in helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed. The College is primarily focused on teaching but is trying to expand its research agenda.
