Position Description:
Applications are invited for a full-time 12-month, open track faculty position (rank and track dependent on qualifications) in a 3-year entry-level DPT Program http://orthopaedics.unm.edu/pt/ ), with ten core faculty positions and a small, culturally diverse student body (30 students per class). We are seeking a faculty member whose primary charge would be a bio-engineering role in our state-of-the-art motion analysis laboratory (MAL).
Responsibilities (of the successful candidate) include:
· Monitors and assures proper configuration, integration, and operation of all computer systems, data collection equipment, and associated peripheral devices in the MAL.
· Designs and develops gait data collection and analysis hardware and software enhancements as needed.
· Works with MAL Physical Therapists to collect motion capture on clinical and research patients.
· Assists in research activities including research design, data collection, data analysis, and scientific writing.
· Monitors data and protocols for accuracy, reliability, and appropriateness.
· Serves as backup for testing personnel.
· Monitors MAL data and protocols for accuracy, reliability and appropriateness.
· University services (serve on committees, attend faculty meetings, etc.)
· Student advisement and mentorship
· Teaching within area of expertise (when applicable)
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position requires an individual who has the skill set to succeed in a research intensive environment.
The UNM Division of Physical Therapy is located in the culturally diverse city of Albuquerque which lies in the high desert ecosystem in central New Mexico. The city straddles the Rio Grande River and is bordered by the Sandia Mountains on the East and a string of five inactive volcanoes on the West. A number of Native American Reservations and Pueblos exist in or near the city. Besides being renowned for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, numerous hiking and biking trails are within easy access and river rafting and skiing are just around the corner. UNM is accredited by the Higher Leaning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Physical Therapy Program has been accredited since its inception in 1976. The School of Medicine has a state of the art Anatomy Lab which we utilize in teaching anatomy. The Physical Therapy Program has a state-of-the-art motion analysis lab for research and educational use.
Minimum Qualifications:
· B.S. in engineering, computer science, biomechanics or related field.
· One year experience working with the VICON motion analysis system or related system.
Preferred Qualifications:
· M.S. or PhD, EdD, DSc or equivalent in engineering, computer science, biomechanics or related field.
· Additional experience working with Vicon or related motion analysis system
· History of Scholarship in Biomechanics or related research
· Experience with programs used for the analysis of gait lab data:
o MatLab
o C++
o JAVA
o Abacus
o Python
o LabView
o Statistical software
· Experience with clinical and/or research gait analysis
· History of grantsmanship in biomechanics or related research
· Experience with programming digital motion analysis code (HTML/XML based)
· Experience integrating other technologies into gait data
· Post-secondary educational experience (teaching, mentoring, working with students, sitting on committees and other faculty requirements when applicable)
