As a well-established pioneer in human performance training, Nebraska Athletics is once again leading the nation through the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL). The NAPL builds upon a strong partnership between athletics and academics to enhance the human performance, safety, health, and long-term well-being of student athletes. The NAPL’s dedicated inter-professional research team leverages the clinical expertise of Nebraska Athletics’ well-established athletic medicine, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, and psychology teams with relationships established with researchers and industry partners from across the country to advance the art and science of human performance. Cutting-edge technology for studying human performance – including fully instrumented biomechanics, endocrinology, exercise physiology, psychophysiology, and sports nutrition laboratories – are just part of the 24,000 square foot research facility which is located adjacent to the athletic facilities housing Nebraska’s 24 athletic teams. The NAPL capitalizes on well-established relationships with researchers within the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL). The NAPL is seeking applications from dynamic, team-oriented, individuals for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate – Sports Biomechanics.
Description of Work:
Provide leadership in creation, execution, and dissemination of performance relevant biomechanics development and research activities conducted under the auspices of the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL) in accordance with the mission and policies established for the NAPL. This includes fostering productive collegial relations within and external to NAPL, and generating productive and scientifically-sound research and development activities that address issues relevant to student-athletes and coaches with a special emphasis on sports biomechanics and performance.
Provides leadership for biomechanics and performance assessment development and research activities and ensures dissemination of key findings/products to the communities of interest including coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, athletic trainers, student-athletes, patients, clinicians, academicians, researchers, grant agencies, donors, and advisory council members. Promotes productive collaborations with NAPL colleagues, academic faculty, industry partners, coaches, strength and conditions coaches, sports nutrition team, athletic trainer, athletes, students, and clinicians within and external to the University of Nebraska – Lincoln to generate clinically meaningful and achievable performance objectives and research investigations.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in biomechanics, biokinesiology, engineering or related field. Experience with collegiate or professional student-athletes, with research involving human subjects, and with generating manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. Skillful at writing proposals for Institutional Review Boards. Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience preferred in motion capture systems (Qualisys, Viacom) including physical examination, instrumentation of the patient for three-dimensional motion data capture and dynamic electromyography (EMG), collection of foot pressure data, and measurement systems operation. Preferred experience in: MATLAB and toolbox building; patient-specific modeling and translational science; frequency domain analysis, bioelectronics, signal processing and filtering.
