  • Post-Doctoral Position in Neural Engineering

The Rehab Neural Engineering Lab at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for a post-doctoral research position in sensorimotor neural interface development for prosthetic limb control. The post-doctoral research fellow will be working closely with a team of neural engineers and neuroscientists to explore sensory physiology and the effects of electrical stimulation at the dorsal root ganglia on function in awake, behaving animals. With the supervision and support from the faculty investigators, the postdoctoral research fellow is expected to take a leadership role and work independently in experiment design, data collection, data analysis, and paper publication. He/she will be encouraged to develop independent research projects/expertise and develop individual fellowship grant proposals. There will be opportunities to closely interact with multiple faculty investigators from clinical, engineering, and basic science departments across both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University campuses. The position involves the following research areas:
    • Pre-clinical testing of sensory stimulation as a model for a somatosensory neuroprosthesis
    • Neurophysiology of somatosensory neurons in the dorsal root ganglia and somatosensory cortex in awake, behaving animals

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:
    • A recently completed PhD or equivalent degree in biomedical engineering or a related field
    • Deep knowledge of peripheral somatosensory neurophysiology
    • Experience with neural stimulation and design/testing of neural interfaces
    • Expertise with Matlab and/or LabVIEW software packages
    • Evidence of scholarship; e.g. peer-reviewed publications

Alternatively, exceptional candidates with more traditional backgrounds in neuroscience, robotics, or electrical engineering may be considered if they have an interest in a neural engineering research career.

The successful applicant will be joining a multidisciplinary team including scientists, engineers, and clinicians to design, develop, and test cutting-edge neural interfaces to restore sensory function and understand sensory neurophysiology in awake, behaving animals. For more information, please contact or send a CV to Drs. Lee Fisher (lef44@pitt.edu) and Douglas Weber (dougweber@pitt.edu).
