    Postdoctoral Researcher position, Biophysics of Bone and Cartilage Research Group, Department of Applied Physics, Kuopio Campus

    The Biophysics of Bone and Cartilage Research Group (BBC, http://luotain.uef.fi/) is a multidisciplinary research team that focuses on basic and applied research related to musculoskeletal diseases. Our aim is to develop better diagnostic methods for osteoarthritis and osteoporosis as well as models to predict future development of these diseases in a subject specific manner. The group consists of three professors (Töyräs, Korhonen, Jurvelin), one assistant professor, 7 post-docs and 20-30 PhD students. Annually, we publish more than 30 scientific papers and several PhD theses. We collaborate closely with medical doctors in Kuopio University Hospital, an essential link for translation of the research outcomes into clinical practice.

    We are seeking for a talented researcher at the post-doc level. The tasks of the recruited person would be:
    - Starting his/her own subgroup within the BBC group
    - Supervision of PhD students funded by the group
    - Application of funding supporting his/her line of research
    - Conducting innovative research related to musculoskeletal diseases and diagnostics

    A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher shall hold a suitable doctoral degree. Positions of postdoctoral researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF Administrative Regulations 30 §).

    The person to be appointed to the Postdoctoral Researcher position is required to hold a doctoral degree in Medical Physics, Biomechanics, Mechanical Engineering or Material Sciences, which may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period of time, which does not include maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service, etc.

    The position will first be filled for a fixed term of 12 months as agreed. The continuation of the position will be agreed separately. The start date of the position is 1 April 2016 or as agreed. The position is filled for a fixed term due to it pertaining to a specific project.

    The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€2,865.30/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 46.3% of the job requirement component.
