The Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo (UW) and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging seek an exceptional scholar for a tenure track position in the field of Mobility and Aging. The initial appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or in very special cases, Full Professor.
The successful candidate must have a PhD or MD with interest and experience in advancing approaches to enhance safe independent mobility among older adults. Ideally the candidate will have a track record of research related to the determinants of mobility and/or the consequences of age-related changes in mobility. Desirable research areas include, but are not limited to; fall and injury risk reduction; approaches to improve balance and mobility; mobility, activity and health; assistive technologies; advanced diagnostics and monitoring; cognition and mobility; mobility and frailty; environmental determinants of mobility. Preferably the candidate would have a track record of knowledge creation as well as applied research and knowledge translation. We welcome applicants from a broad range of fields including, but not limited to biomechanics, neuroscience, engineering, rehabilitation and health sciences. The Schlegel Research Chair position secures a majority of time to be dedicated to research. Additional duties will include teaching and service to the Department of Kinesiology, the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences and the University of Waterloo. As a result candidates are expected to have a strong portfolio of scholarly research, evidence of ability to obtain extramural funding and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching.
In addition to advancing a personal research program, candidates will have the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging, the Department of Kinesiology and other Departments at the University of Waterloo. The candidate will also have the most unique opportunity for advancing a program of translational research working within the new The Centre of Excellence for Innovation in Aging that is located on University of Waterloo’s north campus. The Centre is a partnership between RIA, Schlegel Villages, University of Waterloo and Conestoga College. The Centre includes Ontario’s first purpose-built teaching long-term care (LTC) home which is connected to a research and training building (the RIA building). The 192-bed LTC home operates as one of the Schlegel Villages (The Village at University of Gates). The RIA building is home to RIA team members, faculty and labs.
The annual salary range for this position will be between $90,000 and $150,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, research record and rank of appointment. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. The closing date for applications is July 1, 2016.
