The Department of Physical Therapy in the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences at FIU offers a CAPTE accredited (next visit: 2021) Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program on FIU’s Modesto Madique Campus in southwest Miami with state of the art facilities. The Center for Advanced Rehabilitation/Research and Education (CARE) includes the Human Performance Lab, the emerging Assistive Technology Lab and clinical outcome research program, and the Driving Simulator Lab. The Human Performance Lab has two motion capture systems, electrogoniometers, fixed and portable EMG and force platforms, strength and balance testing equipment, a portable gait analysis walkway, and an integrated system for cardiopulmonary exercise testing. A wide range of opportunities for collaboration and mentorships are available in many key areas of health. Currently, the Department of Physical Therapy has 9 full time faculty and 10 adjuncts. There are opportunities for research collaboration within the college and in Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Neuroscience, and others.
FIU’s Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for the position of Department Chair.
The Chair will work with the Physical Therapy Faculty to continuously improve education and scholarship in the department, and will report directly to the Dean of the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Candidates must have a PhD in Rehabilitation Science or in a related field from an accredited institution and be eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist in the State of Florida. Candidates should have administration experience, history of externally funded research and teaching excellence.
The vision of the PT Department is to be a National leader in Physical Therapy education and research. The PT Department goals are to:
1) Improve quality and scope of the Departmental research.
2) Improve student-centered academic excellence.
3) Increase the depth of professional service and community engagement.
The Department Chair will provide leadership for the program, including program assessment and improvement, fiscal management, and faculty evaluation. This position is a full-time tenure track 12-month appointment. Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with experience.
