    Post-Doctoral Researcher (1-year)

    CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
    We are seeking a Post Doctoral Researcher with strong interest and/or background in concussion management to work with the existing concussion research team on the NCAA/DoD CARE project. In addition, this incumbent will work on implementing an MRI/imaging and head impacts study. This one year post doctoral researcher position will directly contribute to the research at the University of Delaware (UD) site of these groundbreaking studies.

    The goal of this study will be to collect baseline and post-concussion data on all 600+ NCAA varsity athletes including coordinating imaging of a specific subset of participants. This new study will require significant knowledge and skills to develop protocols and standardization of large research studies. In addition, the incumbent must be able to interface with many varying levels of staff in the UD Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services, including the administrators, student-athletes, team physicians, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, and coaches. The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with research colleagues and positively contribute to a productive work environment in the Department, College, University and/or regional partners in the Delaware Health Science Alliance.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist the current research team for head impact monitoring (HITS, Triax) in multiple sports
    • Coordinate the imaging component of the research study with the multimodal imaging center staff.
    • Implement a concussion management research study of the student population beyond intercollegiate athletics including participant recruitment and effective communication with university personnel
    • Contribute to the overall research agenda of the laboratory and assist current research team as directed including, but not limited to, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and manuscript preparation.
    • Collaborate and connect with the network of concussion research currently underway at the University of Delaware


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Doctoral degree in Athletic Training or a related field
    • Demonstrated relevant experience with sports medicine research
    • Experience with human subjects testing required
    • Experience working with athletic populations is required
    • BOC certification preferred
    • Eligibility for Delaware licensure as an Athletic Trainer preferred
    • Relevant Athletic Training clinical experience is preferred.
