    JOB SUMMARY
    The Section of Sports medicine, Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center invites applications for the position of Director of the Motion Analysis Research program. This position is responsible for the management of all matters related to the development and operation of a sports medicine based in vivo human motion analysis program: planning, funding application, coordination, execution, publication and presentation of various research projects for the section. The position will allow shared use of the Department of Orthopedics Motion Analysis and Biomechanics Laboratories, including state-of-the-art motion capture and EMG analysis, and material testing systems.

    The position will include a close working relationship with Dr. Markus Wimmer, Director of the Orthopaedic Labs that include the Motion Analysis Center.

    This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of all corporate affiliations and academic research and development of collaborations regarding sport medicine motion analysis within and external to the section of sports medicine. In addition, the position would include development and supervision of a community based overhead throwing video analysis program.

    MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Develop, initiate, and complete independent research lines and projects related to in vivo human motion measurement that is consistent with the National Institute of Health level or extramural funding and can be published in scientific journals.
    • Basic research pertaining to sports performance, injury recovery, and injury prevention.
    • Participate in the Biomechanics teaching program of the Graduate College at Rush University Medical Center
    • Coordinate research projects with physicians, staff, fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, and international visiting scholars.
    • Conduct data collection with varied instrumentation; compile and process data.
    • Evaluate test data and report results.
    • Develop new tools and/or methods for answering scientific inquiry.
    • Submit, present and publish scientific work related to the research projects conducted in the Motion Analysis and Biomechanical Testing Laboratories.
    • Understanding and ability to use and troubleshoot all existing tools commonly used for biomechanical analyses.
    • Adheres to Rush safety policy and procedure and ensures a climate of safety awareness and compliance in the Rush Laboratory Facilities.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form which may jeopardize the privacy of patients.

    JOB START DATE
    Position is available immediately after approval of the candidate by the Dean’s Office.


    KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
    The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in human movement science (biomechanics, kinesiology), engineering, biomedical engineering, ergonomics, or related field with 3 years relevant work experience. Alternatively, a master's degree in human movement science (biomechanics, kinesiology), engineering, biomedical engineering, ergonomics, or related field with at least 5 years working and teaching experience in a similar field. A background in physical therapy is a plus.

    Additionally, he/she will have demonstrated proficiency in scientific methods, experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis. A strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent public speaking skills is also required. Additionally, the candidate will present strong leadership and management skills with the desire to develop his/her departmental staff and collaborators. The candidate will also have a record of published research in peer-reviewed scientific journals, demonstrated ability to write research grants and secure funds, and demonstrated knowledge of medical and computer terminology. Finally, experience in upper extremity biomechanics is preferred.
