Faculty of Engineering
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medical Devices, Robotics or Technologies in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. You will be research-focussed and be required to undertake high quality research, researcher supervision and teaching, especially in the general area of medical devices, robotics or related technologies, clinical research or healthcare engineering. You will contribute to our taught programmes, including the Master of Engineering Studies in Medical Devices and Technologies.
The University of Auckland is New Zealand's pre-eminent research-led University. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Engineering, with approximately 30 academic staff, 600 undergraduates and 120 postgraduate students. We provide BE (Hons) degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, together with a range of postgraduate taught courses.
We offer a diverse and active community for research at and above postgraduate level, and we are proud of our strong international reputation for the quality of our research outputs. Our research activities broadly concern mechatronics, dynamics, control, mechanics of materials and composites, thermofluids and manufacturing systems. We have collaborative links with research groups and industry within New Zealand and across the world.
The successful applicant will work as part of the Mechatronics Group of the Department and will be required to develop inter-disciplinary research collaborations with academics, healthcare providers, hospitals and/or medical device companies and attract research funding, nationally and/or internationally. Current research interests of the Group include: biomechatronics, medical devices, rehabilitation robots, robotics, smart sensors and actuators, MEMS, digital and intelligent control, and industrial automation.
You will be committed to the development and delivery of curricula and courses in the general area of Mechatronics. In particular you will contribute to our programme 'Master of Engineering Studies in Medical Devices and Technologies', which has been offered since 2010. You must have excellent communication skills. You will also contribute to the wider activities of the Mechatronics Group and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and perform service roles for the Department.
You will have a strong background in engineering, and experience of its application in the general area of medical technologies. Research experience in a clinical setting will be a distinct advantage. You must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area. You will also have a demonstrated ability to conduct research, supervise postgraduate students and publish in high quality journals.
