    The Doctoral Program (PhD) in Education with a specialization in Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP) is seeking highly qualified individuals that want to attain their terminal degree at Virginia’s largest public research university. Faculty research interests and potential funding are available in the following areas:
    1. Sports Medicine Assessment, Research & Testing (SMART) Laboratory Graduate Assistantships
    2. Graduate assistantships in Public Safety (Fire & Rescue) settings (ATC and Strength & Conditioning certification required)
    3. Assistantships in Orthopaedic clinical sites (ATC required)
    4. Research and Implementation of Injury Prevention Programs (e.g., falls prevention, lower extremity neuromuscular training)
    5. Gait/running research and clinical outreach services via the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research & Testing (SMART) Laboratory
    6. Epidemiology, wearable sensors, and community outreach in youth leagues (e.g., football, lacrosse)
    7. Biomechanics and bio-imaging research in lower extremity injury prevention, and injury etiology
    8. Graduate Teaching Assistantships / Lecturers (Adjunct)


    Required Qualifications:
    1. Masters degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field
    2. For Athletic Training positions, proof of current BOC certification is required by the start date
    3. For some positions, nationally recognized certification for Strength & Conditioning (e.g., CSCS) required or ability to attain the certification within 6 months of hiring
    4. Virginia Athletic Training Licensure (or eligible to be licensed before start date)
    5. Ability to work week nights and weekends and travel as needed


    Note about funded positions:
    • Contingent upon funding
    • 6-months to yearly appointments with possibility of renewal
    • Renewal is dependent on performance evaluation and funding availability
    • Assistantship placements will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and interests
