The Doctoral Program (PhD) in Education with a specialization in Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP) is seeking highly qualified individuals that want to attain their terminal degree at Virginia’s largest public research university. - Sports Medicine Assessment, Research & Testing (SMART) Laboratory Graduate Assistantships
- Graduate assistantships in Public Safety (Fire & Rescue) settings (ATC and Strength & Conditioning certification required)
- Assistantships in Orthopaedic clinical sites (ATC required)
- Research and Implementation of Injury Prevention Programs (e.g., falls prevention, lower extremity neuromuscular training)
- Gait/running research and clinical outreach services via the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research & Testing (SMART) Laboratory
- Epidemiology, wearable sensors, and community outreach in youth leagues (e.g., football, lacrosse)
- Biomechanics and bio-imaging research in lower extremity injury prevention, and injury etiology
- Graduate Teaching Assistantships / Lecturers (Adjunct)
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field
- For Athletic Training positions, proof of current BOC certification is required by the start date
- For some positions, nationally recognized certification for Strength & Conditioning (e.g., CSCS) required or ability to attain the certification within 6 months of hiring
- Virginia Athletic Training Licensure (or eligible to be licensed before start date)
- Ability to work week nights and weekends and travel as needed
Note about funded positions:
- Contingent upon funding
- 6-months to yearly appointments with possibility of renewal
- Renewal is dependent on performance evaluation and funding availability
- Assistantship placements will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and interests
