Griffith University Health Group, the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Triathlon Australia (TA) are seeking applications from high-calibre graduate students to pursue a program of research investigating the biomechanical loading patterns of the lower limbs, pelvis and lumbar spine in Triathletes.
This exciting sport based PhD opportunity is available for a suitably qualified exercise science, sport science, biomedical engineering or allied field student for commencement in 2016. The project is a three-way partnership between Griffith Health, AIS and TA and will be predominantly based at the AIS in Canberra, though periods of domestic and/or international travel may be required to undertake the research.
Studying the biomechanical loading patterns of Triathletes, the project aims to better understand the mechanisms associated with the development of sacral and lower lumbar stress fractures in Triathletes. Implementing best practice musculoskeletal modelling methodologies, the project will use a multi-disciplinary approach to provide insight into loading patterns and how these interact with cycling, swimming and running, local muscular fatigue and competition loading demands during the elite triathlon calendar schedule.
