The Biodynamics Lab within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is looking to hire a Research Engineer.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Engineer will be responsible for data collection, data analysis and manuscript preparation for a variety of orthopaedic research within the lab. The individual will supervise undergraduate and graduate students in addition to visiting research fellows.
Facility Overview
Equipment within the Biodynamics Lab includes a high-speed biplane radiography system, a 12-camera Vicon motion analysis system, an instrumented dual-belt Bertec treadmill, and a 14-channel wireless EMG system. This equipment is used to perform subject-specific analyses of in vivo joint kinematics and arthrokinematics during dynamic, functional movements. The highly accurate kinematics are also used as input to subject-specific computational models.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements for this position are a Master’s Degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology (with an emphasis on Biomechanics) or other similar field of study. The candidate must also have a minimum of 2 years experience working in a motion analysis laboratory analyzing human movement data. We are looking for a highly motivated and productive individual possessing strong technical skills, including experience with motion analysis, medical image processing and computer programming. Experience using Simpleware, Mimics, Geomagic and Matlab software and programming experience in C/C++ is preferred. Machine shop experience and the ability to construct and repair mechanical equipment and small electronic devices is a plus. The candidate must have excellent communication and organization skills. The individual should possess excellent writing and presentation skills, must be able to work independently and in a diverse group of individuals including MDs, PhDs, foreign fellows, Post-Doctoral researchers, graduate students, departmental staff, and undergraduate students.
