    Announcement of Faculty Position in The School of Kinesiology Auburn University – Auburn, AL

    Position: As part of a campus-wide cluster hire initiative, the School of Kinesiology at Auburn University invites applicants for a tenure-track position whose research focuses in the broad area of health disparities to begin no sooner than January 3, 2017 and no later than August 16, 2017. At the broadest level, the goals for this cluster are to improve population health through research in the community, state, region, nation, and world by identifying, understanding, and addressing health needs and health disparities. A special focus of the cluster is on the disadvantaged segments of these populations, which are often underserved by existing health care systems due to historically unequal treatment or injustice. Rank for this position is Professor or advanced Associate Professor level. Under this Health Disparities Initiative, new faculty will be recruited in Kinesiology (this position); Psychology; Human Development & Family Studies; Nutrition; Health Outcomes and Policy; and Nursing. The faculty member recruited under this search will be required to establish an independent research program in Kinesiology and to provide leadership in forming multidisciplinary research efforts with others in the Health Disparities Initiative. Membership in this cluster is diverse and research interests of faculty scientists in the cluster range from areas of biomedicine, including obesity, diabetes, dementia, developmental disabilities, and cancer to socio-ecological factors that influence health and health-related behavioral decisions, including environmental toxins, dietary and exercise choices, income levels and accessibility to available services related to somatic and mental health.

    The successful candidate is expected to maintain or build a productive, externally funded research program in the area of health disparities and will have a distribution of research, instruction, and service responsibilities consistent with these expectations. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to participate actively in the Auburn University multidisciplinary Cluster Hires Initiative in the Health Disparities Cluster.     Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal research degree in Kinesiology or related field. Evidence of grant scholarship and external funding; strong publication record, and evidence of innovative research. Current external funding is desired. The candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and workplace collegiality. Must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment begins, and be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
