  • Postdoctoral position in cell mechanotransduction modelling - University of Sheffield

MultiSim is a five-year programme that aims to create a new modelling framework for thehuman musculoskeletal system. The £6.7M Frontier Engineering grant from the Engineering andPhysical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) awarded to the world leading and innovativeInsigneo Institute will improve treatments for diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

The post holder will work the modelling and simulation of cell mechanotransduction osteocytenetwork to control osteoblast and osteoclast activation in bone under physiological andpathological conditions. A modelling approach will be taken to simulate the influence of themechanical stimuli within the osteocyte network on the activation of ion and molecular pathwaysthat control calcium release. The models will be integrated into a hypermodelling framework thatconsists of several sub-models at various scales (cell, tissue, organ, body) so that an overallmusculoskeletal model can be generated.
Applicants should hold a PhD in the Life Sciences, Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines andbe familiar with modelling of cells and the musculoskeletal system.
