    I. Job Summary: Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM, Auburn) is seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to apply for an anatomy faculty position. This faculty position is part of a larger Biomedical Division team. Position will involve teaching Anatomy lecture and laboratory to medical students and actively participate in Anatomy lecture and laboratory curriculum development in collaboration with the Discipline Chair for Anatomy; conduct research and other scholarly activities with the goal of obtaining/maintaining extramural funding for these endeavors; remain current in professional area of interest and participate in professional societies and activities, participate in all assigned, required, as well as other related professional services and activities in the college.


    II. Job Duties:
    1. Maintain current knowledge of human anatomy, embryology and neuroanatomy
    2. Provide classroom instruction in the anatomy curriculum (gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy and embryology).
    3. Provide direction and instruction in the gross anatomy laboratory
    4. Participate in biomedical research and work in a position manner with the Associate Dean for Biomedical Affairs to develop and seek funding for your research program.
    5. Submit an annual Faculty Activities Report.
    6. Participate in faculty development and faculty meetings.
    7. Represent the College in a positive manner which facilitates a pleasant and productive work environment especially in interactions with students, faculty, staff and in external arenas.
    8. Perform all duties as listed in employment contract.
    9. Perform other duties as assigned.

    III. Required Qualifications:

    Licensure or certification:
    Minimum of Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution with a major focus in the anatomical disciplines and research.

    Experience:
    1. Must have a minimum of one year classroom teaching in at least one of the anatomy specialties.
    2. At least two years’ experience in teaching in a human dissection laboratory
    3. A track record of research with grant funding is preferred.

Working Conditions and Efforts: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.     Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands and vision for office equipment such as computers; talk or hear; moderate telephone usage. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds (team lift or mechanical assist)

    Work environment: Office and lab environments. Outside travel required 5% of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

    VI. VCOM Research Resources: VCOM is fully equipped with 10 VICON Vantage V5 cameras, 4 AMTI force plates, 10 OptiTrack Prime 13 cameras. VCOM is in the process of expanding the research capacity by adding 10 more Qualisys Oqus7 cameras, 8 AMTI force plates with one AMTI instrumented treadmill, 12 Channel Motion Lab EMG system and a bodyweight support gait training system. VCOM has formed strong research partnerships with Auburn University’s new MRI Research Center, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Tufts University Medical Center, C-Motion and Andrews Research & Education Institute (AREI).

    VCOM, Auburn is centrally located in the southeastern United States in Auburn, AL, a city with a population of about 56,000.
