DESCRIPTION: Humboldt State University's Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration invites applications for an academic year tenure-track faculty position in motor behavior.
RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor rank; however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointees qualifications and experience. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in Kinesiology Motor Behavior, Motor Control, Motor Learning, Motor Development or closely related discipline (such as Neuromechanics) from an accredited college or university is preferred at time of appointment. Applicants with considerable progress toward doctorate degree completion by appointment date will be considered. Completion of terminal degree is required prior to the start of the second probationary year following initial appointment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
• Ability or potential for effective teaching in kinesiology/motor behavior;
• Ability or potential for building successful partnerships with community agencies or groups;
• Expertise in motor behavior, motor control, motor learning, or motor development research methods;
• Commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds;
• Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and scholarly activity;
• Potential for effective teaching or teaching experience using a variety of methodologies;
• Interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses (majors, general education students, etc.); and
• Willingness to participate in the development of online learning experiences.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
• Potential for effective teaching in a specialty area of motor behavior;
• Record of or strong interest in cross-disciplinary research; and/or
• Record of or strong interest in pedagogy/education research; and/or
• Record of or potential to teach courses outside the applicant's specialty area(s); and/or
• Interest and ability to develop external funding proposals.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong research record with undergraduate and graduate students. Instructional assignments may include: Motor Development/Learning, Foundations of Kinesiology, Structural Kinesiology, Senior Seminar, Research Techniques, Statistics, and Evaluation Techniques. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are teaching; research, scholarship and creative activity with graduate and undergraduate students; and service to the University, profession and community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by approximately one course each semester (6 weighted teaching units per academic year). The reduced teaching load supports the establishment of research, scholarship and/or creative activities required for retention, tenure and promotion.
