    General Information
    Chapman University’s Department of Physical Therapy seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor (Bioengineer or equivalent) position in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences to meet the needs of our expanding program. Successful candidates will begin spring, 2017.

    Continually accredited since 1928, the Department of Physical Therapy has a rich tradition as one of the oldest, continually accredited DPT programs in the United States. The program is located on the newly opened Rinker Health Science campus, Irvine, CA. The campus is home to several current and developing accredited, graduate health science professional programs, including DPT, Pharmacy, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Physician Assistant. The campus is distinguished by innovative teaching, learning, and research laboratories and classrooms with an emphasis on inter-professional education, evidence-based practice, and health promotion and injury/disease prevention. The Rinker campus is strategically located near numerous health service, medical device, and biopharmaceutical companies.

    Qualifications
    The successful candidate will hold a terminal academic doctorate (Ph.D., D.Sc. or equivalent) from an ABET accredited program in Bioengineering or related area of expertise; post-doctoral fellowship preferred, as is a record of scholarship.

    Preference will be given to those with expertise in programming (MatLab, Labview, C++, JAVA, Abacus) and in using currently existing research instrumentation which include: 10 Camera Motion Analysis System, Codamotion, Ospry Motion Capture, Motek/GRAIL System (180 degrees Virtual Reality Projection Screen, 6-degrees of motion instrumented treadmill, with Full Body Weight Support System), other high-speed multi-camera/sensor systems; Noraxon wireless EMG systems; Inertial Sensors; instrumented force plates and treadmills; Alter G, Biodex System 4 Pro Dynamometer, Hocoma ArmeoSpring upper extremity exoskeleton, Neurocom® Balance System, etc.

    California PT licensure (or eligibility) is desired if candidate is also a physical therapist.

    To be considered at the Associate Professor level, the successful candidate will have evidence of excellence in: 1) scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications and recognition as an independent investigator (a track record of grantsmanship is preferred); 2) teaching; and 3) service.
    Responsibilities
    Develop and/or maintain an active line of research that is consistent with the department’s existing research programs, preferably one that is, or has the potential to be, interdisciplinary in nature and eligible for extramural funding.

    Collaborate with other DPT faculty to provide technical expertise, consultancy or support, including trouble-shooting and programming, and to maintain and upgrade existing systems. (Current DPT faculty’s research include: mechanisms of falls and falls injury prevention in older adults; studies in motor control and motor learning in pediatric and adult populations; the mechanisms and resolution of overuse injuries and interventions in various populations; telerehab, robotics and virtual reality rehabilitation in stroke survivors and other neurological populations; recovery of upper extremity function after neurological injury or disorders; adaptations in postural control of the trunk in response to musculoskeletal pain and aging, and the neuromechanical mechanisms underlying altered postural control, etc.).

    Teach in area(s) of expertise, including instrumented motion analysis, scientific inquiry, or other courses in DPT curriculum.

    Additional responsibilities include mentoring physical therapy students, professional/academic service, and participating in inter-professional educational experiences. For those at the Associate Professor level, significant service, including mentoring junior faculty, is expected.

    Tenure track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research/creative works agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/creative works activity, teaching and service.
