    The Department of Kinesiology & Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware invites applications for a senior faculty position. A research focus that involves neurological or movement disorders is preferred. Primary responsibilities will include conducting nationally visible, funded research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising graduate students, and university service. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in kinesiology or a related field. Candidates should also be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Candidates that can take advantage of the University of Delaware’s new Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging (http://cbbi.udel.edu/), which houses a Siemens 3T Magnetom Prisma MRI scanner, are strongly encouraged to apply. All faculty are expected to contribute to a welcoming campus environment that embraces diversity.

    GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Kinesiology & Applied Physiology (http://www.udel.edu/kaap) includes research disciplines in applied physiology, athletic training, biomechanics and neuroscience/motor control. It is comprised of 23 faculty, ~ 750 undergraduates pursuing a B.S. in Exercise Science or Athletic Training, and 40 graduate students pursuing an M.S. in Exercise Science, a Ph.D. in Biomechanics & Movement Sciences or a Ph.D. in Applied Physiology. The Department provides an environment that supports and fosters the development of productive, high-quality research programs. Doctoral programs within the Department were ranked 13th by the National Academy of Kinesiology in 2015. Annual research funding for the unit is approximately $5.8 million.

    Ranked second, nationally, among the best places to study the health professions by College Factual, the College of Health Sciences is a thriving academic unit of over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students and 110 faculty with outstanding research and teaching facilities. The College has recently opened an exciting new 100,000 sq. ft. clinical research facility. Another facility is scheduled for completion in 2018. The College includes the departments of Behavioral Health & Nutrition, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy, and the School of Nursing. With annual research expenditures of approximately $16 million, the College currently houses a number of large, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH and DoD. The College boasts strong research teams in the areas of neurological disorders, musculoskeletal health, cardiovascular health, biomechanics and rehabilitation science. There are also numerous collaborations with our clinical partners.

    With roots tracing back to 1743, the University of Delaware combines tradition and innovation, offering students a rich heritage along with the latest in instructional and research technology. Located in scenic Newark, Delaware, within 2 hours of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., the University is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant, and Carnegie Research University (with very high research activity, a designation accorded to fewer than 3% of degree-granting institutions in the U.S.), and with external funding exceeding $200 million. Delaware was recently ranked second, nationally, in peer-reviewed publication rate in a report issued by the Council of State Governments published by Elsevier. A state-assisted, privately governed institution, the University enrolls approximately 17,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate students.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation packages are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Faculty at the University have regularly received annual cost-of-living and merit salary increases and the benefits package is one of the best in the nation. Relocation and start-up funds are available. Appointment date is August 15, 2017, but it is negotiable.
