    DESCRIPTION: Humboldt State University's Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration invites applications for an academic year tenure-track faculty position in exercise science and health promotion.


    RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor rank; however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointees qualifications and experience.     PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in Kinesiology or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred at time of appointment. Applicants with progress towards doctorate degree completion by appointment date will be considered.


    The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
    • Potential for effective teaching in kinesiology/exercise science/health promotion;
    • Record of, or potential for, research and scholarly activity involving students;
    • Potential for effective teaching or teaching experience using a variety of methodologies;
    • Interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses to diverse students (majors, general education students, etc.); and
    • Commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds;
    • Record of, or potential for building successful partnerships with community health agencies.


    Preferred qualifications for this position include:
    • Hold advanced certification or training in health promotion, health education or wellness;
    • Interest and ability to develop external funding proposals.

    PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong research record. Instructional assignments may include: Health Related Behavior Change, Community and Population Health, Design & Implementation of Health Promotion Programs, Exercise Physiology, Fitness assessment and Exercise Prescription, Foundations of Kinesiology, Senior Seminar, Research Methods, and Evaluation Techniques. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.


    The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are teaching, research & scholarship with graduate and undergraduate students, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by approximately one course each semester. The reduced teaching load supports the establishment of research, scholarship and/or creative activities required for retention, tenure and promotion.
