The Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured teaching and research position in the area of molecular genetics. We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in employing genomic approaches to understand fundamental processes of gene expression (e.g., transcriptional and translational control, mechanism of epigenetics etc.) as part of the Center for Bioengineering Innovation research group. This position is slated to begin in August 2017. The professional rank and tenure for the Associate Professor is contingent on qualifications; the Professor rank will be tenured at hire. Preference will be given to applicants with experience and documented successes in publication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and acquisition of external funding associated with translational research in molecular genetics. The successful candidate will: (1) maintain an independent research program that is supported by awards from extramural agencies; (2) contribute to the teaching mission of the Department of Biological Sciences, including mentoring of undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D. students in Bioengineering and Biology, and postdoctoral fellows; and (3) perform service for the department, university, and profession.

Minimum Qualifications
MQs for rank of Assistant Professor:
*PhD in biological sciences or related field
*Minimum one-year post-doctoral research experience
MQs for rank of Associate Professor include all of the above and:
*Associate Professor rank and successful university teaching experience in a university setting
*A strong record of research productivity including demonstrated success in obtaining extramural grant funding
MQs for rank of Professor include all of the above and:
*Professor rank and successful university teaching experience in a university setting
* A substantial record of research productivity including a sustained record of extramural grant funding
*A record of sustained leadership and service to the professional community and within the university setting
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in utilizing genomic tools (e.g., transcriptomics, epigenetics etc.) to elucidate mechanisms and solve challenges related to human health.
Demonstrated research expertise as evidenced by an outstanding scholarly record (i.e., publications and grants), including national recognition for the Associate/Professor rank.
Demonstrated experience as an effective classroom teacher.
Demonstrated effectiveness as a research mentor of undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral associates.
Outstanding communication skills.
Experience that compliments existing faculty areas of expertise (e.g., biomarkers, biomaterials, bioengineering), especially those within the Center for Bioengineering Innovation.
Demonstrated success in collaborative, interdisciplinary and translational research.
Experience with or commitment to working with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

The Department of Biological Sciences has graduate programs including an established PhD program in Biological Sciences and a new PhD program in Bioengineering. The Bioengineering PhD is the first interdisciplinary PhD on the Northern Arizona University campus. The Department of Biological Sciences offers four Bachelor's degrees, as well as Masters and doctoral degrees.
