The College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Vermont seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the Program Director of our Doctor of Physical Therapy program in a combined 12-month full-time Director and tenure eligible or senior clinical faculty appointment beginning as early as July 1, 2017. Candidates must have a Ph.D or equivalent academic doctorate with a minimum of six years of full time higher education experience and a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a physical therapist education program. The successful candidate will have senior faculty status with the qualifications to hold the faculty rank of Associate/Clinical Associate Professor or higher, hold a current license to practice PT in any US jurisdiction and be eligible for Vermont state licensure in physical therapy. An ongoing record of scholarship that includes a demonstrated ability to write proposals and secure extramural grants, excellence in teaching, leadership skills, knowledge of trends in higher education, active engagement in the profession and an in-depth understanding of contemporary physical therapy practice and accreditation are required. The Program Director works closely with the Department Chair of Rehabilitation and Movement Science and the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences as well as other Program Directors of health professions programs in the College.
The Program Director will provide effective leadership by overseeing all aspects of the academic program, advancing the vision and mission of the Program, Department and College and ensuring compliance to CAPTE accreditation standards. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: program development and assessment, curriculum management, programmatic fiscal management, student advising, admission activities, mentorship and evaluation of program faculty, and enhancing the visibility and recognition of the DPT program both locally and nationally. In addition, as a member of the faculty, the Program Director is expected to teach in his/her area of expertise, engage in scholarship, and participate in service to the College, University and the community. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science comprises Physical Therapy and several related programs, including Athletic Training and Exercise & Movement Science. In addition, the College is home to Departments in Nursing, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences and is well aligned with the College of Medicine, sharing a new state-of-the-art simulation center. As part of an academic medical center whose academic and clinical programs are located on the UVM main campus, there are numerous opportunities for inter-professional collaborations in research, teaching and clinical service provisions with our colleagues creating an intellectually stimulating academic environment. The DPT faculty have an opportunity to mentor students in the DPT/PhD track in the Neuroscience Graduate Program. The College is also in process of developing an interdisciplinary PhD program that will provide further opportunities for faculty to teach and mentor doctoral students.
