  • PhD Position Electronics/Signals for Hand-Wrist Prosthesis @ WPI, Worcester, MA, USA

Graduate Research Opportunities in Electronic Instrumentation and Signal Processing for Hand-Wrist Prostheses (WPI ECE Dept.)

Funded Graduate Research Assistantship: We have one funded opportunity related to an NIH grant to develop control capabilities for hand-wrist prostheses. We are looking for an entering Ph.D. student (Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, or Biomedical Engineering Department) to commit 2–3 years to the research, with funding. The primary research will involve design, development and testing of a wireless system for electromyogram (EMG) signal acquisition. Broad knowledge of “electronic devices”—electronics, computer engineering and wireless transmission—is desired. This position will also contribute to several other areas of the grant activity, including EMG signal processing, relating the EMG signal to amputee intent, data collection from both able-bodied and limb-loss subjects, and publication of the work. Some travel to our partner location in Holliston, MA will be necessary. A spring/summer/fall 2017 start date is available. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is located in Worcester, MA, USA.
