The Orthopaedic Department at the University of Tübingen, Germany is currently seeking candidates for a full-time position as a
Biomechanical Research Engineer.
The main research focus of the lab is in motion analysis of the knee and spine, gait analysis, sports biomechanics and material testing. The lab is very well equipped with custom made models of knee and wrist joints, that simulate motion in anatomic specimens with computer regulated actuators. A Kuka KR60 robot with force sensor feedback has lately been used for in-vitro and in-vivo joint motion studies. There are several testing systems, such as an MTS 858 axional-torsional material testing machine.
The position will involve research in orthopaedic biomechanics in close collaboration with the Professor and Chairman, who has extensive experience in this field. The successful candidate will work closely with a technician employed in the lab and with physicians in the Department. The primary responsibility of this position will be to conduct experiments with existing models of joint simulation and to develop new models. International publications, grant proposals and reports are expected.
The position also involves teaching of medical student and research fellows. This position requires a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or related and relevant science and engineering fields. International equivalents are accepted, German applicants must be Bachelor of Engineering. The successful candidate should have excellent computer knowledge and computer programming skills in language for creating custom modeling programs (e.g. LabView). The candidate is expected to have or aquire knowledge in robotic programming. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are expected. Candidates must be fluent in spoken and written English and must have some knowledge of German.
The initial contract will be for two years, with extension to an unlimited position, if things work out. There is a strong option for a future academic career in this university environment.
