  • PhD Position Biomechanics, Motor Control, Rehabilitation Robotics, Tübingen Germany

    The University Medical Center Tübingen is part of the University of Excellence Tübingen. It provides medical services at the highest level and covers the entire spectrum of modern medicine, research, teaching and clinical care. We are currently seeking a
    PhD candidate (f/m)
    in the research group „Multi-level modeling in Motor Control and Rehabilitation Robotics“ at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Germany.

    We are a young and highly motivated research group at the University of Tübingen focusing on bio-physical and biomechanical modeling with applications in motor control, neurological movement disorders, and rehabilitation robotics. Our main interest is the interdependency of the musculo-skeletal system and the nervous system. In this highly interdisciplinary research, we aim to develop models and simulations in order to gain a deeper understanding of human motor control e.g., in relation with neurodegenerative movement disorders. The group links research interests at the two clusters of Excellence, the „Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience“ (CIN, http://www.cin.uni-tuebingen.de) in Tübingen and the „Stuttgart Research Centre for Simulation Technology“ (SRC SimTech, http://www.simtech.uni-stuttgart.de) in Stuttgart.

    We offer:
    One PhD candidate position (50%, duration up to three years) with a focus on musculo-skeletal modeling and simulation. As a PhD candidate in our group, you will have the possibility to interact with researchers at both excellence clusters as well as with the clinical research environment at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Reasearch (HIH, http://www.hih-tuebingen.de), Tübingen.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Background in Physics, Cybernetics, Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, or related field
    • Programming skills in c/c++ or Matlab/Simulink
    • Interest in biological movement control
    • Prior experience with computer simulations, especially in the field of biomechanics or bio-robotics, is a plus
    • A Masters (or equivalent) degree. Near completion can be considered
    • Proficient oral and written English skills

    We offer remuneration in accordance with TV-L (collective wage agreement for the Public Service of the German Federal States) in addition to all the customary benefits granted to employees working in Public Services. Severely handicapped persons with equal qualifications are given preferential consideration. The University of Tübingen is anxious to increase its quota of female scientific staff, and therefore emphatically requests women to apply for this position. The Administration of the University Hospital is responsible for all employment matters. Personnel appointments will be made pursuant to the fundamental stipulations of the legal statutes for universities in Germany.

    Candidates please send a Cover letter, CV, Transcript of relevant degrees, your own publications and/or your master thesis as a single pdf file (English or German) before January 25th to Daniel Haeufle (daniel.haeufle *at* uni-tuebingen.de).
