    A Post doctoral Research position is immediately available in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, in the Rehabilitation Medicine Research Laboratory (Director:Ceren Yarar-Fisher). UAB ranked 10th among US public universities in total NIH funding in 2015.
    The current focus in the Rehabilitation Medicine Research Laboratory is understanding:
    · the mechanisms by which skeletal muscle adaptation influences the risk of developing metabolic disorders in individuals with SCI;
    · the molecular mechanisms by which neuromuscular electrical stimulation intervention influences metabolic and hypertrophic adaptations in the paralyzed muscle;
    · the molecular mechanisms by which early utilization of ketogenic diet influences neuro-recovery and metabolism in patients with acute and sub-acute spinal
    · the influence of damage to the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) with high level SCI on metabolic function and disease risk

    The laboratory has three-funded projects from NIH, NIDILRR, and UAB Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Approaches of studies include molecular biology, protein analyses, gene expression analyses, microbiome, electrophysiology and clinicalresearch/trials in rehabilitation medicine. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in rehabilitation science, kinesiology, exercise science, nutrition,physiology or a related field. The candidate will be expected to write and think independently with passion for innovative research. He/she should be able to analyse data and write manuscripts.
