    The Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a teaching-stream position in Human Movement Analysis (#1700208). The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and will begin on July 1, 2017.

We seek scholars who are committed to addressing the pressing challenges facing our country in the area of physical activity and health from a wide array of methodological and disciplinary perspectives.

    Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in kinesiology or a closely related discipline by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter. Evidence must be demonstrated of excellence in teaching, in both small and large class settings, and in teaching-related activities such as curriculum development and student mentoring, as well as evidence of expertise in the theoretical and practical aspects of qualitative and quantitative analysis of human movement with applications to sport, work, recreation, and daily living activities. Experience and demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activity are required. This can be accomplished through excellent course evaluations, a coherent teaching philosophy statement that is linked to evidence of excellent pedagogical practice, and/or demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities. Excellence in teaching can be demonstrated by strong endorsements from referees, teaching accomplishments highlighted as part of the application, teaching evaluations or syllabi.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and mentoring, active engagement in scholarly creative professional activities, and service contributions. With respect to teaching and mentoring, the successful candidate will play a central role in the continuing development and delivery of a curriculum for the practica (physical activity) courses within the undergraduate curriculum and/or the Masters of Professional Kinesiology (MPK) program. More specifically, emphasis will be placed upon a curriculum that integrates theoretical content from the academic courses with the physical activity courses. The learning outcomes of the practicum curriculum include learning fundamental movement principles and skills to enable students to apply these principles and skills to sport, play and recreation, teaching, coaching, rehabilitation, and work settings. In addition to curriculum development, responsibilities include: teaching practicum courses, training and supervising instructors within the movement-related practicum courses, teaching undergraduate courses in biomechanics or motor learning, or teaching courses to graduate students in the MPK program. Service responsibilities will include membership on curriculum-related committees that address the practicum-related curriculum and the development of a kinesiology stream to prepare students interested in becoming registered kinesiologists.

    Previous relevant teaching experiences and demonstrated expertise in advancing the theory-practice nexus within Kinesiology and Physical Education are highly desirable.
