Dear Biomech-L members:
I am currently seeking a paid part-time research technician to work with me to process raw biomechanical data from humans and non-human primates at the New York Institute of Technology, College of Osteopathic Medicine (Old Westbury, NY). The overall goal of my lab is to investigate human and ape locomotor evolution.
The research technician may be involved in a variety of projects, but the main project entails a biomechanical comparison of hand postures during terrestrial locomotion in primates. This project seeks to investigate how differences in hand anatomy and joint posture affect joint level mechanics in different species of primates. The main responsibility of the research technician will be processing and digitizing of kinematic videos, kinetic data, and some analysis of data in Matlab. However, the research technician will also be encouraged to develop and investigate their own questions surrounding human and primate locomotor evolution using data generated through this project.
I am looking for highly motivated candidates at any level (though a Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required), who are passionate about research, and who have a particular interest or expertise in biomechanics, functional morphology, anthropology, kinematic analysis, biology, paleontology, or sports science, and who has strong analytical and quantitative skills.
Primary Responsibilities
- Digitizing of kinematic videos of non-human primates.
- Photogrammetric reconstructions of gait in primates.
- Participate in post processing of data and analyses in primarily in Matlab
Requirements
- Enthusiasm for research, particularly in the fields of biomechanics, functional morphology, anthropology, biology, or paleontology, or sports science.
Preferred:
- Any previous research with motion tracking, photogrammetry, or biomechanics.
- Knowledge and proficiency with Matlab
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
