Postdoctoral Research Fellows - Mendias Lab
Two postdoctoral research fellow positions in (1) skeletal muscle biology and (2) tendon and connective tissue biology are available in the Mendias Lab. The lab recently moved from the University of Michigan to the Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is entirely focused on musculoskeletal medicine and research, and is ranked nationally #1 in orthopaedics and #2 in rheumatology by US News and World Report. Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) is a top ranked medical school with outstanding core resource facilities in high resolution microscopy, epigenomics, flow cyotmetry, proteomics and metabolomics, and NMR. HSS and WCMC are located adjacent to each other in the heart of New York City's Upper East Side Scientific Corridor, in close proximity to Rockefeller University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Skeletal muscle biology: The fellow will focus on projects evaluating the interaction of lipid signaling in muscle atrophy, fibrosis and inflammation using a combination of in vitro studies, genetically engineered mice, mechanical loading studies and in biopsies from patients with chronic muscle injuries.
Tendon and connective tissue biology: The fellow will focus on how signaling molecules, extracellular matrix, and mechanical forces and impact the specification and differentiation of tendon fibroblasts and progenitor cells. These studies will use a combination of in vitro studies, genetically engineered mice, and biopsies from patients with tendon disorders.
Work in the Mendias Lab is currently supported by the National Institutes of Health, Mark Cuban Foundation, and Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation.
