Kessler Foundation (West Orange, NJ) has a position opening for a biomedical engineer to support current rehabilitation research projects. The areas of these projects are (1) balance dysfunction assessment using psychophysical detection and (2) balance rehabilitation using computerized biofeedback based intervention, for individuals with traumatic brain injury. The successful applicant will work as part of a team including research scientists, physicians, physical therapists, study coordinator, engineers and research assistants. Work for this position will be performed at the balance laboratory of Human Performance and Engineering Research at Kessler Foundation, in West Orange, NJ. This position has initial funding for up to two years, with a possibility of extension.
Responsibilities include:
• Setup and operation of equipment including 3D Motion Capture System, EMG System and a balance testing platform
• Conduct data collection sessions involving balance assessments and training of research participants in laboratory setting
• Processing of experimental data, developing new methods and computer programs as required
• Assisting with scheduling and regulatory processes
• Assisting with preparation of manuscripts and presentations
Minimum requirements:
• Strong knowledge in biomedical data acquisition, instrumentation and troubleshooting
• Strong computer skills including in MATLAB
• BS in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field
Desirable experience and qualifications:
• MS in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field
• Strong programming skills in MATLAB, C, C++
• Experience with motion capture data collection routines (calibration, data processing etc.)
• Biomedical instrumentation for data acquisition (EMGs, EEGs, forceplates etc.)
• Electromyography (EMG) procedures and analysis
• At least a year of related experience in gait and/or balance laboratory.
