  • Postdoctoral researcher in fish biomechanics (Tufts University)

An NSF-funded position (up to 5 years) is available in the laboratory of Dr. Eric Tytell at Tufts University, in Medford, MA (https://sites.tufts.edu/tytelllab/), to study the interaction of body stiffness and body shape in swimming fishes and how they contribute to stability and energy consumption in unsteady flow. The project will integrate experimental data of body stiffness and swimming performance from several species of swimming fish, along with a 3D computational fluid dynamic model of the interaction of the fluid and body. I am looking for a postdoc to take the lead on both the experiments and the tuning and validation of an existing computational model. Experience with biological fluid dynamics and fish physiology is important, along with strong quantitive and programming skills. The selected candidate with serve as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students and will also participate in a funded outreach program with the Boston Museum of Science.

Interested individuals should send a cover letter, CV, unofficial academic transcripts and the contact information for 3 or 4 references to Dr. Tytell (eric.tytell@tufts.edu).
