    The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston is hiring a Senior Research Engineer to perform advanced clinical and basic science orthopaedic research. The new Biodynamics laboratory facilities (opening summer, 2017) will include separate large animal and human testing areas, each equipped with state-of-the-art dynamic biplane radiographic imaging, 3D video-motion analysis and force sensing capabilities for comprehensive, 3D assessment of in vivo joint and tissue function. 3T MRI and CT are accessible in the same building. Research will address a variety of areas in orthopaedics, including basic studies of orthopaedic injury and disease, development and evaluation of regenerative therapies and clinical studies of orthopaedic treatments and outcomes, as well as the development of cutting-edge imaging technologies and analysis methodologies. The labs will work closely (and share office and common space) with the UTHealth Center for Regenerative Medicine, and collaborate with orthopaedic surgeons, fellows and residents at UTHealth (one of the largest orthopaedic programs in the country).

    Responsibilities include:
    • Setup, operation and maintenance of advanced imaging and motion analysis instrumentation
    • Laboratory data collection, management and processing
    • Development of new algorithms and software for data interpretation and visualization
    • Manuscript and presentation preparation and assisting with grant writing

    Minimum requirements:
    • MS in biomedical, mechanical or electrical engineering (or closely related field), or BS with equivalent experience
    • Knowledge of and experience with biomechanics and 3D kinematic analysis
    • Strong computer programming skills, including MATLAB
    • Proficient writing and presentation skills

    Preferred experience and qualifications:
    • Medical image processing/analysis
    • Programming experience with 3D graphics and datasets
    • Experience with operation and troubleshooting of complex instrumentation

    Desirable experience and qualifications:
    • Mathematical modeling of dynamical systems
    • Mechanical and/or electronic design/fabrication skills
