    The Exercise and Sports Science program (EXSS) is located at the University of Newcastle’s Ourimbah campus on the beautiful Central Coast, just north of Sydney. UON is seeking to appoint a Professor to build and promote research capacity and to provide the necessary leadership in teaching to deliver an ESSA accredited Exercise and Sports Science undergraduate program. The successful candidate will interact with current staff to deliver a vibrant learning experience for students and to develop key areas of research strength.

    Substantial existing research infrastructure provides a dynamic, multidisciplinary work environment. Available equipment includes: force plates VICON motion capture system, telemetric and fixed electromyography and Humac Norm isokinetic dynamommeter that are housed within a dedicated laboratory facility encompassing a 60m runway. In addition, the group has access to imaging technology (e.g. DEXA, pQCT), electro-stimulation, a range of ergometers and a fully equipped gymnasium.

    Over the past 5 years, the EXSS program has established a strong research track record and has been successful in recruiting higher degree research students across a range of disciplines. The range of programs on offer at both the main Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses offers great potential for inter and multidisciplinary research contributing to UON’s Global Impact Clusters: Better Health and Healthcare; Future Industries; Strong Cities and Regions and Energy, Resources, Food and Water. The Hunter and Central Coast regions also offer the successful applicant the opportunity to build interactions with industry partners across a range of environments (eg sport, clinical or exercise).
    The right person for this role holds a PhD in exercise and sport science or related field and demonstrates a capacity to demonstrate quality research outcomes, supported by a track record in successfully secured external funding.

    Candidates must demonstrate an ability to create and deliver innovative and engaging education programs in exercise and sport science, aligned with best practice. The appointment requires outstanding interpersonal skills as well as program leadership, mentoring, governance and organizational administration.
