The Centre for Sensorimotor Performance at the University of Queensland (Australia), in collaboration with researchers from The Australian Institute of Sport, are pleased to offer a fully funded PhD place for an outstanding student to study foot biomechanics.
The research project is funded through an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant and will incorporate the use of novel musculoskeletal imaging, biomechanical and neurophysiological research tools to explore ways to augment / enhance the function of the human foot during running, with specific emphasis on the plantar fascia. This research will have direct implications for management of running injury and athletic performance.The project will suit students with a strong background in biomechanics from any of the following fields - exercise science (kinesiology), bio/mechanical engineering, rehabilitation sciences (physiotherapy, podiatry), comparative biology or anatomy.
Essential qualities for candidates include - strong computational and analytical skills in biomechanics including knowledge of three dimensional kinematics and kinetics and experience in working with human research participants.
The opportunity is open to both Australian/New Zealand nationals and international candidates, although only exceptional international candidates will be considered.
Course fees and a living stipend (currently $26,682 per annum, tax free) will be included as part of the scholarship. Exceptional candidates may also apply for a top-up to this scholarship.
